If Lure sets out to do one thing (fish) and do it well, it seems to have nailed it. The unassuming restaurant front, set in the heart of the delightful but relatively under-visited Dartmouth Park (don’t tell everyone), belies the cosy but fresh interior and the feel-like-a-local service. It’s a good place to source your London fish-and-chip fix if you’re so minded, but there’s much more besides.
The prawns bulge generously out of their bucket, practically jumping into the adjacent hot sauce unaided, and there’s a catch of the day that’s fresh as they come. I’d recommend heading there for a midweek treat. If you’re feeling like something interesting, try the gilt-head bream with lemongrass, sweet chilli and coriander; when it’s comfort I’m after, the fish finger butty ticks all the boxes, but stays classy with its brioche bun and tangy lemon mayo. A north London gem, and a great follow-up to a lazy summer’s afternoon on nearby Hampstead Heath. Alternatively, you can head back over with a takeaway.
