Tamesis Dock – Pub on a boat

Great beer, friendly staff, iconic views of London, a converted 1930’s Dutch barge…do I really need to continue?

Tamesis dock is a floating pub permanently moored at Albert Embankment. The boat itself is a beautiful construction. There are several floors spread throughout the inside and outside of the barge, which gives it the illusion of being much larger than it actually is.

It is decorated imaginatively with an assortment of different coloured fairy lights and a healthy selection of small plants in silver tin pots. There are picnic benches and metal stools on top deck, whilst the bottom floor features a swinging egg – yes, you read that correctly: an egg-shaped chair chained to the ceiling that swings back-and-forth.

The establishment has a relaxed atmosphere and there have never been any bouncers or entry fees whenever I have visited – although I hear there is sometimes a cover charge for nights when live bands are playing.

As far as I am concerned there are only two drinks on the menu: Camden Pale Ale and Bitburger. You’d best come with your sea legs on because although the river current is only mild, things feel a lot more wobbly after a few of these exquisite beers.

There are few things in life more satisfying than spending an evening with good friends – or new acquaintances for that matter – drinking an ice-cold beer and looking out over the River Thames at such iconic landmarks as the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and the London Eye.
