Golf in the Glencoe Valley

Tee off in the Highlands with a round of Glencoe golf! The Dragon’s Tooth golf course is just lovely. It’s right in the heart of the West Highlands of Scotland at the foot of the mighty Glencoe Valley. This course has been beautifully nurtured since 2002 and offers a fun course with stunning views.

Now you might think a golf course in the hilly Lochaber region would mean slogging up steep hills to reach the greens. Far from it at Dragon’s Tooth. Very skilfully thought out by golf course designer Rob Hisemen (whose portfolio also includes the prestigious Royal Golf Club at Riffa Views in Bahrain with Colin Montgomerie) the greens make the most of the natural lay of the land to create what is actually a gentle meandering course on undulating land.

What strikes any golfer teeing off here at Dragon’s Tooth is the vistas from the elevated greens. The fairways seem to plunge into the shores of Loch Linnhe framed by the Ben Vhair mountain range beyond. And indeed there are lots of golf courses in the Lochaber area but we think Dragon’s Tooth has to be one of the prettiest and most accessible for all levels of golfer.

It’s a 5003 yard course with a par 69/67 and rather unusually there are nine holes and nine greens but 18 tees at Dragon’s Tooth. Described as being ‘very pleasing to the eye’ you’ll find some delightful features such as the old oaks overhanging the fairways on the second green and the monkey puzzle tree at the third. There are also deep bunkers the river that runs through the hole golf course tricky dog legs burns and bushes for you to negotiate too.

These Glencoe golf greens are created using USGA (United States Golf Association) methods which delivers firm year-round putting greens so you can play golf in Glencoe in all four seasons. We’re loving the names of the holes on the scorecard too. See if you can sink a birdie on the Two Monkeys or perhaps nice hole in one on The Pap? Watch out for the par 4 Hazardous Snake and try to avoid a bogey on the Scunner!
