Take a Ford Ka for a spin at this Junior Rally School at Silverstone! Open to any rally-mad youngster between the ages of 10 and 16 teenage petrol heads will love the chance to get behind the wheel of a proper rally car and get those wheels spinning on the gravel.
On the ‘Rally Experience’ and ‘Adrenaline Rally’ budding junior rallyers will be part of a group of six taking it in turns to drive the front wheel drive rally prepared Ka complete with roll bars and rally seat harnesses. What’s really cool about these sessions is that when it comes to starting driving lessons on the public roads you might well be taking them in a Ford Ka but it’ll be nothing like this souped up hot-hatch version even if it does look your normal Ka.
So now everyone knows what car they’ll be driving on these junior sessions it’s time to reveal what crazy things mini rally fans will be getting up to. On the Adrenaline Experience it’s all about honing those techniques that have been seen a million times on the WRC footage on telly. That’s to say handbrake turns on the special hairpin circuit then an outing on the 200m sweeping bend to try and crack the art of graceful power slides around it (not as easy as it’s made to look we can tell you!). And finally there’s time on the school’s skid pan for your little darlings to have a go at figure of 8s.
Those who have a Rally Experience voucher clutched in their hands get the handbrake turn workshop and the skid pan session but also throws in a drive around the full loose gravel rally stage and even a high speed passenger ride which is sure to have the youngsters beaming with delight and exhilaration when they step out of the car after a spin round with a pro driver.
Now this junior rally school at Silverstone is the real rallying deal but if the child you are buying it for has never even sat behind the steering wheel of a car before there’s no need to worry the expert instructors at this centre are very patient and will show them all the basic techniques to get moving with driving geared to each youngster’s ability.
All training takes place on the authentic rally stage adjacent to that famous Silverstone circuit and a note for Mums and Dads – all instructors are fully qualified members of the Motor Sport Association and the cars are dual controlled.
