Meet Gillian and Chris. They’ll be hosting your wine tasting in Yorkshire – at their very own winery! Yorkshire Heart vineyard produces award-winning wines made from grapes lovingly grown on their 17-acre estate. This experience is an invite for two to enjoy tasting the wines whilst listening to the owners tell their story followed by a traditional afternoon tea.
Back in 2000 Chris and Gillian started planting vines in their garden. Five years later and the couple had produced their very first bottles of Yorkshire wine. Having found the perfect site for growing vines at the sleepy village of Nun Monkton the duo set about growing grapes commercially planting thousands of vines. Today there are over 12 500 vines of different varieties that make up the Yorkshire Heart estate.
As the pair admit: ‘It has been a slow but wonderful process full of incredible highs and lows due to the good old English weather’. It’s certainly a fascinating journey the couple has been on and they love to tell you their story so far during your wine tasting. As you sample the wares of the vineyard you’ll learn lots about what it takes to set up a family wine business in Yorkshire with many a interesting anecdote too.
There’s no doubting this family is incredibly passionate and knowledgeable when it comes to wine; from tasting it to making it in their beloved corner of Yorkshire. As you munch nibbles you’ll sip on the latest wines the vineyard has produced. The Latimer White is fruity and fresh the Latimer Rosé is light and luscious and the sparkling rosé is a bubbly delight.
Your wine tasting takes places in Yorkshire Heart’s ‘Wine House’ which is the vineyard’s dedicated visitor centre. Once you’ve finished sampling the house wines it’s time to sit down and enjoy a well-earned afternoon tea with a selection of sandwiches and cakes served at your table overlooking the vines. And we have to say there’s only one drink other than wine that could possibly accompany your afternoon treat – a proper cup of Yorkshire tea!
Wine tasting at Yorkshire’s Heart vineyard with afternoon tea for two is available on selected dates during the week and at weekends throughout the year.
