Helicopter Lessons Devon

From swooping over wild moors to hovering over the dramatic coastline you’ll see it all on these helicopter lessons in Devon! These flights offer some of the best scenery in the whole of the South West so if it’s rotary adventure you’re after look no further than these chopper sessions.

Your foray into flying helicopters will take place at Dunkeswell Aerodrome in the heart of Devon just a few miles north of the Honiton. Surrounded by the Blackdown Hills you will actually be taking off in your heli at 839ft above sea level making this the highest licensed airfield in not only the South West but in the whole of the UK!

This operator’s Devonshire base means they are well placed for a variety of helicopter work including lifting and craning to hard-to-reach areas of the county specialist aerial photography and filming (most of those stunning panoramic shots you see looking down on the sea and the cliffs are filmed by helicopter!) as well as airborne survey work and training too.

This experience gives you and insight into learning to handle a helicopter with the same sort of introductory lesson anyone wanting to train for their licence would initially undertake so whilst the views out of the all-glass domed chopper might take your breathe away you will also have the chance to take the controls no matter which flight duration your book but only if you want to.

As for the helicopter that you’ll be using for your lesson here in Devon it’ll most likely be a two seater Sikorsky S-300 formerly known as the Schweizer 300. This is a light and agile little mover with a single three-bladed main rotor. Renowned for being easy to handle and reliable too it looks like you have the perfect chopper for the job.

And Dunkeswell is a lovely base to get airborne from. An ex RAF and US Naval base affectionately known as ‘Mudville Heights’ since being retired from active duty after the Second World War general aviation has really taken off here. We think it must be something to do with the warm and friendly Devonshire welcome (and do check out the on-airfield cafe!) the fascinating mix of rugged moorland and quaint villages that surround the airfield and the overall excellence of teaching here. Time to sign up for your helicopter lessons in Devon!
