Learn to Sail Dorset

Learn to sail on the sheltered waters of Poole Harbour in Dorset! With two days dedicated to learning the art of sailing this experience really is the perfect way to start to get the hang of what sailing in a simple vessel on the sea is all about.

The centre is based right in the middle of one of the most beautiful sailing areas in the country which also happens to be Europe’s largest natural harbour. Calm waters means you will be learning the essential basics needed to sail a small boat in a zone that is ideal for beginners as there are no high seas or tides to tackle.

All instructors based at Rockley Point in Poole are fully Royal Yachting Association qualified. Led by chief sailing instructor Liz McMaster the team is passionate about teaching and believes you are never to old to learn the skills needed to sail. You will be learning in Wayfarers which are popular training sail dinghies with a marconi rig main sail jib and symmetical spinnaker (these sailing terms may mean nothing to you now but you will learn all about them over the two days!).

By the end of the two days you have to learn to sail you will (all being well!) have gained your RYA Level 2 sailing qualification and learnt all about rigging tacking gybing sailing upwind and downwind points of sailing and man overboard recovery in these enjoyable 4.82m long sail boats. The sailing centre can also advise on local accommodation from camping and B&Bs to International hotels so you make a little holiday out of your learning to sail weekend.
