This whole site is certainly impressive. If you were to draw a typical castle we reckon it’d resemble Windsor pretty much to a tee (or rather tea in this case!). With round turrets hexagonal towers flags flying and moats you can’t miss this iconic building that is rich in stories of the monarchy.

As you approach the main gates you’ll have your tickets in hand so you can forget the queue and just head on in. Don’t forget to pick up you audio tour guide which is also included in this Windsor Castle and tea package. You’ll hear how Windsor has been home to 39 monarchs and one in particular had a major influence on the interior design. Charles II wanted to rival his cousin Louis XIV who had a decadent decor at Versailles so when you’re visiting the State Apartments expect to see lots of gold leaf gilding fancy ceiling plaster work opulent furnishings and grandiose artwork too. And don’t forget these apartments are still used today by members of the royal family for events so you can just imagine the Queen sipping her cup of tea in one of Windsor Castle’s sumptuous drawing rooms.

One of the highlights for many is seeing Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House which happens to have been designed by famous architect Sir Edwin Lutyens and is one of the largest in the world. This world in miniature is just as impressive as the castle itself. You will also see the Gothic St George’s chapel and take a wander around the Precincts. All in all you’ll easily spend a good couple of hours at the castle before heading literally across the road for your Windsor teatime treat.

The Harte and Garter hotel dates back to the 14th century and is right opposite the entrance of Windsor Castle. Tea is served in the Harte and Garter Restaurant Ballroom
