We think these workshops near Shoreditch Park in North London are a great way to kick off a weekend. You’ll get two and a half hours to create make shape and shake your way through several different cocktail drink and chocolate recipes – and then you can hit the town after!

Get a group of you together go as a couple get your work colleagues involved or just invite the family along for a long overdue meet-up with a difference. Your host will show you all the mixology and bar tending skills needed to rustle up some rather tasty cocktails and then you’ll move over to the gloriousness that is chocolate.

When it comes to the recipes for your cocktails you can go wild in the aisles or stay classic. You might even fancy creating your very own vision of drinkable goodness but don’t forget the proof is in the tasting so hopefully you’ll get those blends to balance and complement each other!

After the cocktails comes the chocolate making. You’ll be presented with a mouth-watering slab of solid unadulterated cocoa-y gorgeousness and your job is to shape and marble away to form your delightful hand-made works of chocolate heaven. There will also be truffles that need to be decorated so you could be dipping and rolling in anything from exotic spices to crispy crunchy caramel bits. Delicious.

And of course allowances are made for the very important task of tasting. After all you can’t walk out at the end of any chocolate and cocktail making workshop having not tried your wares can you? As you sip on your drinks and nibble on chocs made by your own fair hand it’s time to ponder you’re next move – the hand-tied bag. This is what you’ll pop your chocs in to take away with you. Hotel Chocolat Bean to Bar Experience

Hotel Chocolat Bean to Bar Experience

Go on a journey with Hotel Chocolat from bean to bar on these brilliant chocolate experiences! Spend a couple of hours at one of Hotel Chocolat’s very own chocolate schools to learn how cocoa beans get transformed into the glossy bars of chocolate that Hotel Chocolat is renowned for.

It’s going to be a taste and smell sensation on these workshops. We all know chocolate tastes so good but what do cocoa beans actually smell like? You’ll be immersed in the world of cocoa during these experiences so you’ll be tasting and smelling all the way through the chocolate-making process.

The chocolate laboratory is a special place. The vibe is very much one of a cocoa plantation with the mix of metal and wood with hurricane lamps and hessian sacks. In fact Hotel Chocolat owns it’s own plantation in Saint Lucia so that’s how they know they are getting the very best cocoa beans to create their renowned and much-loved chocolate range.

And it’s this process you’ll be learning about. The Hotel Chocolat conching machines whirr away whilst your chocolatier host explains how their chocolate is made. But you’re not just here to listen – you’re here to make your very own chocolate bar from roasted cocoa beans! Time to roll your sleeves up and get stuck in.

As your expert chocolatier explains the purest chocolate is just cocoa beans some sugar and maybe a little milk. So you’ll be given your own stash of freshly roasted Hotel Chocolat cocoa beans to grind by hand. The smell at this point is incredible – earthy and intense. As the cocoa powder separates from the cocoa butter you start to get a paste and you’re well on the way to making your bar!

Time for some tempering to bring the paste up to temperature to get that perfect crystal structure giving it that smooth and glossy finish. Once poured into the moulds (with a little bash to get the air out) you’re done. Time to reflect with a glass of bubbly on how you took cocoa beans and made them into an actual chocolate bar. Chocolate set and ready you’ll leave this Hotel Chocolat bean to bar experience with your very own hand-made slab of chocolate. Yum!

Standby for mucky mitts and chocolate moustaches galore. Making a mess is actually all part of the fun during these chocolate sessions that are just for kids aged between five and 13 years old. Hosted by Hotel Chocolat kids will have a blast. The history of chocolate is explained in a fun yet informative way and without waffle so youngsters get just the right amount of facts and figures before attention wanders.

After the educational bit that includes seeing the machines used to turn cocoa beans into chocolate it’s time to get hands-on. And as an accompanying adult you can watch your little ones as they get stuck in with all things cocoa. What’s more you’ll most likely be offered a drink (ever had a drink at a Hotel Chocolat cafe? Well we can tell you the hot choc is to die for!) and even take a nibble on some sampling choc yourself.

Each child will be presented with a block of delicious chocolate and that means it’s time for the decorating to begin. Kids will be piping swirls and shapes with different colours of warmed liquid chocolate sticking on mini marshmallows and generally just making a glorious cocoa mess as they decorate. All bars are made in their own unique style and once they’ve set it’s time to wrap them as neatly as a Hotel Chocolat bar in the shop ready to be taken home.

The only problem we can see with these Hotel Chocolat Kids’ sessions is the fact that those neatly packaged bars of hand-crafted chocolate will so not be making it home without being scoffed. All the more reason for you grown ups to make sure you buy your own little stock of choc in the shop before you leave!!
