Flyboarding Chepstow

Flyboarding Chepstow

Go flyboarding in Chepstow at the fabulous National Diving and Activity Centre! This is a great place to have a go at the crazy sport of flyboarding. If you’ve always wondered what it’d be like to ‘walk on water’ this is as close as it gets – and it’s as totally exhilarating as you’d imagine!

Flyboarding for the uninitiated is you strapped onto a small board that resembles a skateboard. A hose is attached to a jetski that’s out on the water next to you. This provides the power to get the water propelled from outlets on the board – and that’s what gets you ‘flying’ in the air. First time flyboarders often describe it as Iron Man meets dolphin!

It’ll take a few goes for you to feel the balance and get used to being forced up and out of the water by the jet sprays so there’s no avoiding getting wet for this experience. Before heading out you will have an on-land briefing so you know what to expect. Once out on the water you’ll work through the three separate stages of getting up and out of the water.

What’s great about this Chepstow experience is that all flyboarding lessons are taught on a one-to-one basis so you can really progress quickly with your instructor right next you on the jetski to encourage and coach you. Before long you’ll be getting high enough in the air to wave to your friends and family watching from The View cafe’s terrace. And if you really take to it like a duck to water (‘scuse the pun!) you might be up for trying a few dolphin dives – the signature move of flyboarders.

We have to say the azure blue waters of this former quarry make for a unique place to try flyboarding in Chepstow and it boasts not only great facilities for visitors but also a friendly an enthusiastic welcome from the flyboard team. All the gear is provided for you including a buoyancy aid so you don’t even have to be a brilliant swimmer for these thrilling flyboard experiences.

Flyboarding Scotland

Flyboarding Scotland

Step into those water jet pack boots and go flyboarding in Scotland! This Scottish flyboarding centre is based on the lovely Auchenreoch Loch in the heart of Dumfries & Galloway. It’s all pretty picturesque but you’re not here to stand on the bankside gazing out you’re here to flyboard!

It has to be said you have to be a wee bit mad to flyboard. You step into a pair of stiff boots that are attached to a board which is powered by water that jets out from under your feet. A handy jet ski out on the loch with you pumps the water up through the flexible hose you’re attached to. Sounds too far out to be true? Time to head to Dumfries to check it out for yourself if you dare.

Operating alongside jet skis inflatable rides fisher folk and fascinated diners sitting out on the terrace of the lakeside Loch Inn flyboarding is most definitely the star attraction at Auchenreoch. The loch covers a good 100 acres so there’s plenty of room for the flyboarders and the other water users to play.

The team that runs this Scottish flyboarding set up prides itself on succeeding to get pretty much every total beginner who comes along up and ‘flying’ by the end of their lesson. Sure it’s going to be a wobbly and wet start but the exhilaration of rising into the air above the water and keeping it steady is unmeasurable.

And it’s not just beginners who have fun here. The UK’s only pro-flyboarder Sonnie ‘backflip’ Bean trains here. He’s a local load from Crocketford so don’t be surprised if you see some fancy pants flyboarder doing backflips and spins out there.

Easily accessible from Dumfries (it’s just a 15 minute drive west on the A75) this is a great place to give the crazy watersport of flyboarding in Scotland a go. Facilities are good with the lovely waterside decking area of the Inn perfect for friends and family to spectate from. Of course it’s not easy to get your balance and get up there whizzing over those cool Scottish waters but when you do it’s a brilliant feeling. Strap those jet boots on and get into the loch!

Jetovator Experience

Jetovator Experience

Try the Jetovator experience and ride one of the best water toys you could ever try! We’ve joined (jet) forces with a company that offers experiences to try different lake toys including the maddest of the them the Jetovator at inland lake venues in and around the Liverpool area.

The Jetovator uses thrust from cascading water controlled by an accompanying jet boat to power you up into the sky. The hydro powered Jetovator is certainly unique and looks a bit like a cross between a personal watercraft and a trials bike. And yes this experience is as crazy as it looks!

Contrary to what you might think the Jetovator is a remarkably stable set up with a tripod of water columns supporting you from beneath. There’s one spray stream beneath your foot rest providing lift and another two powering from the front to control speed and direction. You’ll be perched on the bike-style seat using the handlebars to orientate the forward jets to steer. The expert water riders here reckon being a Jetovator rider is just like bike riding but on a lake and most people are able to get up and out of the water within a few minutes.

The equipment is particularly lightweight and agile because it doesn’t have an onboard power source. Indeed why house a heavy engine when you can tether yourself to a high powered jet ski boat via a 40 ft hose?! Your instructor will be on the supply craft controlling the thrust (and therefore how high you fly) as well as offering tips and advice as you go. That all means you just have to concentrate on which direction you want to go and enjoying the ride.

Your Jetovator adventure with these crazy machines lasts for around 30 minutes. You’ll embark from a position in the lake and it’ll take all your sense of balance to rise gracefully out of the waves using the surge of the H20.

Once you are up and running and have covered the basics of the handling the Jetovator the experience cranks up a notch with your instructor increasing the power. Prepare to potentially rise to a height of around 25ft and accelerate at speeds approaching 20mph all thanks to the power of good old water. If you take to Jetovatoring like a duck to water you might even want to try some more daring manoeuvres including twists and turns or even some fancy diving underwater type tricks out on the lake!

Coastal Flyboard Experience

Coastal Flyboard Experience

Become a Flyboard rider with free flowing flair on these adrenaline-packed have-a-go sessions! What we love about this venue is that you will be taking to the fly board on the sea at this the country’s very first coastal fly board centre!

Feel like a superhero ninja in a wetsuit out on the blue waters of the south coast as you head out of Poole harbour and onto the open seas around Sandbanks beach for this amazing experience that will literally have you flying out of the water on a board.

Maybe we should explain how it works. You get kitted out in full wet suit buoyancy aid and helmet then you’ll put your feet into a pair of Hyperlite boots that are fixed to the fly board. The board itself is a bit like a plastic skateboard but with heavy duty jet hoses underneath to propel you in the air. When you first look at the gadget you’ll think:’There’s now way I’ll be able to balance and stand up on THAT!’ but with expert flyboard tuition and a bit of determination you will succeed.

Once out on the water and ready to fly you get yourself strapped into the board. The accompanying PWC (that’s personal water craft) that provides the water for the hoses and your instructor who is controlling the thrust will wait for the OK from you then the water is released…….and as the pressure builds up in the hose the underwater propulsion will raise the board with you on it out of the water…and you’re flying!

The sensation of being raised into the air on a column of high pressure water is probably quite enough excitement for one day by the seaside – and after 25 minutes out on the sea you’ll probably be exhilarated but exhausted too.

Don’t forget this flyboard centre at Poole harbour near Bournemouth is the first and only location in the UK to offer you the chance to get to grips with the fly board on coastal waters rather than an inland lake.
