Kayak Lessons in North Wales

Kayak Lessons in North Wales

Kayaking North Wales – take to the water with an exhilarating half or full-day experience based in the lovely Llangollen area of North Wales. As well as expert coaching geared towards your level you get the added bonus of beautiful surroundings too.

Your kayaking session is set on the picturesque waters in and around the River Dee against the scenic countryside backdrop of North Wales. The lesson begins with registration and provision of all the equipment you will need including buoyancy aid safety helmet and kayak to suit your height and build.

Each group will be led by a qualified instructor who will give a full safety briefing and demonstration of the equipment before you get afloat. The tuition will take place on a calm stretch of the river or nearby canal section so you can concentrate on developing your technique without fear of being carried off on the current!

You will gain knowledge of how to control your kayak as well as learning the basic essential flat water skills including paddling forwards and backwards in a straight line turning around moving sideways and stopping.

When your instructor has finished the basic control skills and the theory of the capsize drill it is time to kit you out ready to head off onto the river for your kayak adventure. Soon you will be out there on the Dee exploring the open water. Here you will have the chance to put your newly acquired skills to the test on the moving white water (don’t worry they’re not gnarly rapids but they are brilliant fun!).

All the instructors are passionate and enthusiastic they love to paddle and they love teaching others how to paddle too. As your confidence on the water grows with time by the end of your kayaking lesson in North Wales you’ll even be up for a few games of kayak tag to round things off!

Kayaking in Wales

Kayaking in Wales

Kayaking on Wales’s Wye river is a great way to explore the waterways! Climb aboard your kayak to discover exciting and challenging water on these half and full-day kayaking experiences near the stunning Brecon Beacons area of South Wales. These sessions are ideal for those with no or little previous experience of kayaking.

Your kayaking session starts with meeting your coach who will be a fully qualified member of the British Canoe Union. Once kitted up with buoyancy aid helmet paddle and kayak (wet suits may be hired at approx. £3.50) your instructor will take you through a land-based safety briefing and explanation of basic techniques.

When it comes to kayaking most people’s biggest concern is if they have to do a capsize drill – well worry not at this Welsh kayaking centre there isn’t one. That’s because these days it’s not necessary as modern kayaks are a lot more stable controllable and far safer to get into and out of than before. So there’s no fear of having to get wet before you even start your waterborne adventure!

Once you’ve been through all the procedures on dry land it’s time to take to the Welsh water! The little village of Glasbury (Y Clas-ar-Wy in Welsh) is one of the most popular spots in South Wales for kayaking and canoeing as it’s a crossing point for the River Wye and is just outside the Brecon Beacons National Park – so it’s all very picturesque!

The remainder of the morning session is spent out on these local waters learning the paddle techniques and practising your skills in your very own closed cockpit kayak for one. If you’re on the full day course the waters of Wales will be explored further in the afternoon as you head off on a short expedition downstream to take on some more demanding flows.

If you decide to carry on with kayaking these taster sessions in kayaking at Wales’s most friendly activity centre can contribute towards your British Canoe Union’s One Star award. So what are waiting for? It’s time to get paddling as you head to South Wales to learn kayaking!

Kayaking in the Lake District

Kayaking in the Lake District

Paddles up for kayaking in the Lake District! This is quite possibly the loveliest part of England for a spot of kayaking. You’ll be paddling on Ullswater the prettiest of the larger lakes that make up the famous Lake District National Park.

We are offering full and half day kayaking experiences out of Ullswater. Your amiable host and guide for the day is Leigh. He’s a fully qualified BCU Sea Kayaking guide who loves his outdoor adrenaline sports and whilst he’s paddled on waters around the world he adores being able to kayak with clients in the Lake District.

Leigh has a fleet of kayaks at his disposal that are ideal for beginners and novices alike as they are really stable – so there’s no need for any previous experience to be able to enjoy these sessions. If it’s forecast to be windy only the double kayaks will be used for extra stability.

As well as honing your paddle skills these excursions are all about enjoying the scenery. Setting off from Glenridding Sailing Centre which is at the south end of Ullswater lake you will soon find yourself admiring the views. There’s so much to explore in the immediate area. From the isolated little islands of Cherry Holm and Wall Holm to the beautiful and remote Silver Bay and the unspoilt beauty of Blowick Bay you’ll see it all.

It’s all done at a relaxing and calm pace too. It’s not a race there are no rapids to ride – just the very best backdrop you could hope for and a friendly instructor to help you discover all the hidden gems you might not spot from onshore.

We can highly recommend going for the full day session of kayaking in the Lake District. Leigh has worked out the perfect itinerary for the day which includes a stop off in a secluded spot for a picnic lunch. The food is all provided – and there’s nothing better than a bit of paddling to build up an appetite!
