Billingsgate Fish Market – Seafood heaven

This particular London treat isn’t for the faint hearted with opening hours from 04:00 – 09:00 and stall holders usually packing up by 07:30. Your best bet is to get there as early as possible to get exactly what you’re after. With such a wide range of customers from couples planning dinner parties to groups of friends on their way home from a night out suddenly feeling drunkenly inspired and restaurant owners looking for their dish of the day.

Stalls stock everything from live crabs caught just off of the British coast, to the more exotic Tilapia and black Pomfret. With oysters from 50p apiece you’ll end up buying more than you set out to but usually no more than you budgeted for. My advice is to check what’s in season before you head there to get the most out of your visit.

Once you’ve stocked up on all of your fishy goodness, head to the small café in the corner where they serve the most beautiful sandwich known to mankind and the perfect breakfast to rejuvenate you after your early start – a scallop and bacon bap. At only £ 3.50 they don’t skip on filling and you’ll be heartily rewarded with around 5 huge scallops and thickly sliced bacon in a fluffy white bap.
