Exploring The Tawny – A Hidden Gem in Staffordshire
When I first had Oscar, I was immediately excited about the idea of taking him everywhere! Unfortunately, Covid hitting scuppered that plan, but with Noah, I’m keen to make the most of the ease of travel with a baby. My good friend, Theresa, has been the third point of the travel triangle, and of course, we were keen to schedule a trip as the sunny weather kicked in in the UK. Theresa lives in Bristol and with us in London, we’re always looking for somewhere we can both get to. The Tawny, a beautiful Insta-friendly treat in rural Staffordshire, caught both of our eyes!
What is The Tawny?
The Tawny is described as a ‘deconstructed’ hotel, offering all the best bits of a luxury hotel but with added privacy and space. Located in rural Staffordshire, it’s easily accessible with just an hour and a half train journey from London. The hotel’s unique concept eliminates the traditional hotel building, opting for self-contained cabins, huts, and cottages spread across a stunning 70-acre estate.
Our Room and Interiors
The decor at The Tawny is all about embracing nature. Our Family Boathouse room featured stunning views of the water and forest with floor-to-ceiling windows. The room was beautifully decorated with bold navy walls, floral touches, and a spacious terrace. The highlight was the in-room bathtub where you could soak in the view, complete with an outdoor copper bath for a luxurious experience.
The Grounds
The grounds of The Tawny are a true delight, offering picturesque walks through woodland, lakes, and wildflowers. Guests can enjoy exploring the folly trail and engaging in garden games like chess and table tennis. The hotel provides bikes for guests to ride around the vast estate, ensuring everyone can make the most of the beautiful surroundings.
The Swimming Pool
One of the highlights of The Tawny is its heated outdoor pool, maintained at a comfortable 31 degrees all year round. It’s the perfect spot to relax and unwind while enjoying the stunning views of the hotel’s grounds.
Food at The Plumicorn
The Plumicorn, the hotel’s restaurant, offers a diverse menu for both lunch and dinner. From flatbreads to gourmet mains like sea bass and beef fillet, the culinary experience at The Tawny is truly exceptional. The terrace dining experience overlooking the grounds adds an extra touch of magic to every meal.
