Brickwood – Australian eaterie

Clapham is one of the hubs of London’s sizeable Australian community, and they’ve put their brunch-related talents to excellent use in this upbeat daytime spot. If you’ve already had your fill of the avo revolution, fear not; as well as nailing a few Antipodean breakfast classics – the green stuff is in fine fettle here, and paired with chorizo and undeniably well-poached eggs – the menu ventures into some more unfamiliar territory too, with corn fritters with halloumi and beetroot crème fraîche on the list and truffled mustard in the toasties. The locals from Down Under seem to approve – shut your eyes and the predominant twang of the background noise will have you believe you’re closer to Bondi than Balham.

Whatever you eat, I’d suggest rounding off with one of their ingenious mixed berry scones (pictured); weather allowing, you can even take it out back into the leafy garden and try to catch a few Aussie-style rays before you leave.
