Canopy Market – Independent food and wares

This pop-up market takes place on the last weekend of every month (Friday to Sunday) and turns this restored Victorian space close to Granary Square (check out the Granary Square, Caravan and Dishoom articles) into an all-singing, all-eating hive of activity.

Located as it is right next to the art and design school of Central Saint Martins, it’s only fitting for creativity to play a leading part here, and visitors will indeed find one-off pieces from a number of independent designers beneath Canopy Market’s roof. The fashion-wary will also find their way, however, with a strong showing from the finest small-scale purveyors of food and drink that London has to offer, from gourmet Scotch eggs and fine cured meats to innovative desserts and local craft beers.

There’s also music, often throughout the day, but particularly on a Friday night, when little-known artists and bigger-name DJs take turns to get the weekend off to a relaxing start. I love the regular themes that pop up here; on a recent visit, there was a Spanish olive festival complete with olive-stuffing classes and Spanish guitar performances.
