A Beautiful Blogger Reunion at Coworth Park

Whenever fellow blogger, Polly is in town, there’s always a great excuse to get the whole blogging gang together for a knees up, great food and lots of fun. Regular readers will know that Polly lives in Qatar and we forged a strong friendship before we’d even met…that’s the beauty of social media. We’ve met many times now and it’s always as if we’ve known each other forever, picking up where we left off.
(thank you Polly for the photo)

Rather than choose a location in muggy London, we decided to escape to the countryside for our meet up and the location of choice was one of my favourite country manor houses Coworth Park. I often get asked about where to go on a UK staycation and I have two favourites; Soho Farmhouse if you want casual and rustic and Coworth Park if you want somewhere elegant and refined.

Though I’ve been to Coworth a few times in the last few years (for a staycation, an Easter break and afternoon tea) I haven’t eaten in the main restaurant for years. We actually had a table there for Mr S’s dad a few years ago but that was long before I recorded everything on my blog and before the restaurant received a Michelin star. Restaurant Coworth Park not only serves incredible food but is beautiful to look at too with a bronze garland artwork suspended over head and views of the hotel’s beautiful meadow location.
Emma, Binny, Sima and I arrived early and ordered up some refreshing cocktails in the lounge before taking our seats in the restaurant.
The menu has been created by Chef Adam Smith and is a ‘Best of British’ ode to the English countryside. We started off breaking bread and slathering it with seaweed butter before tucking into a selection of canapés.

My favourite were these gorgeous seared salmon sticks topped with avocado and a fruity mandarin gel – the perfect starting nibble. Coworth Park ‘Oreos’ with taramasalata were lovely as was a foam of heirloom tomato and goats curd.

My dish of cured salmon with oyster and rye was perfect, and if like me you’re not a fan of the texture of oyster don’t worry as there’s just a small amount for flavour.
Polly and Emma both loved the marinate scallop served on glazed pork belly with apple and cabbage.
And Sima and Binny really loved their egg yolk dish served neatly inside a pickled onion with a hat of truffle and mushroom.
My main course was braised halibut with artichoke, smoked tomato and lemon – an absolute dream combination for me and it reminded me of the Mediterranean freshness of the Amalfi Coast.

Herb crusted lamb with courgette, sweetbread and truffle was Polly’s choice.
And Emma gave us all food envy with this beautifully cooked and prepared salt aged Waterford beef with cep puree, oxtail and dripping.
Binny and Sima ordered the globe artichoke with courgette flower and smoked aubergine and I couldn’t help but order another as a side dish for the table as it sounded so amazing. The a la carte menu at Coworth Park is a little pricey but if you’re looking for options that won’t break the bank so madly, then the Best of British menu is a more wallet friendly two courses at £30 per person or three courses at £35 per person.
Several courses later we decided it was best to share dessert and a cheese course between the five of us. The choice being a gorgeous strawberry and vanilla tart with the chef selection of cheeses.

Seeing that we were sticking our cameras into every dish, the staff at Coworth Park guessed that we took our Instagram feeds rather seriously and bought us a gorgeous bonus dessert featuring their hashtag #DCMoments.
We all had to get back to London or home for various reasons but there was time for one more drink on the slight cloudy terrace…before saying  goodbye to Polly but with plans to see each other again very soon! And I would be seeing Coworth Park soon too…
