The Prince of Wales – Boule and birdsong, anyone?

South London can often be noisy, bruising, and hectic. Not in Cleaver Square though in London’s Kennington, where the Prince of Wales lets you take a deep breath and regroup. The perfect place to catch up with pals, the Prince of Wales is an Oasis just off Kennington Park Road.

This garden-like space is in the middle of one of the most charming neighborhoods around, with beautiful terraced houses forming a square around a tree-lined boules and petanque zone.

On warm days that square is filled with the gentle clink of boules colliding, as birds sing from the trees and laughter floats on the warm summer air. The Prince of Wales has its own tables directly outside, but you can also grab your beverage in a plastic cup and take it out to the square for a game or just sit on one of the many benches dotted around.

Inside, this bar is a welcoming, tightly-packed vibe with old-fashioned, old-world decor with gorgeous bare wood surfaces and countless pictures on the walls. With excellent food — pub grub at its best — this is a great haunt whatever the weather, but be warned, tables right outside the pub are like gold dust at peak times.
